Chris v Ed

  1. Ed played very well. I've looked at this game from my perspective. I'll add my comments in future posts. I'm interested in hearing what others has to say.

  2. Chris kept after me pretty much the whole game. The first real opportunity I had was at 12.Bd3. I had expected the exchange. When Chris backed off I got a chance at controlling the tempo.

If there is one move that perhaps should be different, it would be 22.Ke3. I think Kc3 would have been better, with eventually the king back behind the pawns with Kb2.

Then move 26.Bxc6 (exchange for the knight) was a surprise. At this point the board was fairly open. This exchange brought out my second rook while Chris had both of his still unmoved.

All in all it was a tough game. I really expect a different result next time we play.

Thanks for the good game Chris!

  3. This may be picking at nits, but instead of 6Nxc6 perhaps Nc3 furthering the development and maintaining pressure.

Does black win a pawn with 8.... BxB 9NxB Nxp ? Haven't played it out on a board, just thinking.

10.Bh6. I think I like the bishop better on e3 but you do eliminate his fianchetto.

13.What if white castles here? Black can win the b pawn but white can gain control of the b file. Might be worth the sacrifice. Easy for me to say, it wasn't my game.

    14. Perhaps 0-0 would have been better. The Qf4 was more aggressive but the King was still standing in the middle just asking to be whacked.

I'll look at the rest of the game later.

    Good game though.

  4. During the game I realize after move 12 and 26 that I should have done what Ed said. I felt the rook ending could have ended in a draw. I broke concentration and Ed took advantage of it. I think Ed played a very solid game.

34 a3 was a bad move should have play h4. 36 was weak should have played Rf2. Don't know what I was thinking on 42? Actually I was think this guy isn't going to let up!

Of course these things happen when your opponent is playing like a machine. Good game Ed. Glad to see you posting.

BTW all, Look at Jon v Ed from 11/22/09. I'm sure Ed knows what it is like playing against a machine, too. Jon played very well in that game and took advantage of the first break and didn't let up. I added a comment to it last night.

BTW BTW I have commented on Jon v Calvin (I think). Has anyone read it - nobody's responded. Is there a way of knowing when someone updates old posts?
