Fischer v Weinstein
Ruy Lopez opening as played by the great Bobby Fischer. Feel free to analyze the game and post your thoughts about what you see. 28. Nxe5 is a great move that gives white a pawn advantage, and more importantly, puts him positionally in a strong and threatening situation. Enjoy...

I always read that pawn moves are bad in the opening, especially the ones in front of the castled king. Bobby Fischer doesn't seem to have read the same books as I. Look at moves 8 and 9. I'm sure they are solid moves from a great player.
ReplyDeleteThere is some annotation in that bok I have about openings about those moves actually. c3 gives the bishop a safe square, and in the Ruy Lopez, you have stroger chances with the light squared bishop as white as opposed to trading it for the knight. c3 prepares for the attack from the knight on move 9...Na5
ReplyDeleteh3 is also considered strong, as it protects the move Bg4 which would remove the knight and force the queen to capture at f3, leaving the d4 square unprotected when white pushes that pawn to d4. Both moves are ways to allow white to control the center with the d pawn push later.
