An alternative on 6... N-d5 was Qa5+ then winning the pawn back. 9... B-a6. If white takes the bishop then NxP(c2)+ winning the queen. If not and white plays Q-e2 or a3, black could exchange N for B and follow up with Qa5+ putting pressure on the weak d pawn.
Really nice finish. 30...g4+ was outstanding. I probably would have grabbed the knight to equalize the material and in the process overlooked the mating possibility. With the capture of the knight, black would have had a pawn advantage but the ending would have been challenging with both rooks and the queens still on the board.
Larry definitely had me on the ropes, really from the point where he brought his Queen to g3. I lost my king side pawn structure, although not completely, but left that area open for attack, and Larry put me into a position where he was one move from forcing mate. I must admit that the Bishop sac was really the only logical option (26..Bxg2+). I was in a position where if white takes on h6, the game is over. My king was really hanging. 28. Kg3 would have been winning for white. Black then would have no check and no way to avoid Qh6+, kg8, Qh8#
You guys need to get me some of your games. The feedback I get is phenomenal, I feel that I am learning so much from these posts. I have my own personal chess coaches :) Looking at the site though, it seems to be too Joncentric. Let's get some other games up here!
Are you coming to the library on Thursday, April 14th?
THE TWINSBURG CHESS CLUB Twinsburg, Ohio
A chess club for all ages and levels. We play casual games every Saturday. We meet at the Twinsburg Public Library Summer hours 10:00 - 2:00 Non-Summer Hours 2:00 - 6:00.
This site is dedicated to the exploration of chess. I plan to post games that have been played at our club and present them in a format that will allow all of us to review and analyze our games. Feel free to email the moves from your games and I will post them. Just include who played white and who played black and I will put it into a viewer.
This way we can all get a chance to revisit our games and provide each other feedback and learn from each other.

ReplyDeleteVery nice ending. Eight checks in a row to mate. Meanwhile, Larry had a mate in 1 in the que. Now was that planned?
